Frank Miller's graphic novel 300 comes to the big screen in a blazing fury of swords and arrows. Directed by Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead), the film completely and ambitiously captures the aesthetic of the original comic - from Spartan lands to fantastical creatures to rolling armies - offering an astounding visual experience that is as, if not more, impressive than Miller's previous adaptation Sin City. Miller himself serves as executive producer and consultant, ensuring the film stays true to its source. A testosterone adventure of epic scale, 300 re-imagines the legendary Battle of Thermopylae between Sparta and Persia in a make-no-apologies whirl of bloody battlefield action, spectacular visuals, and unyielding heroics.
A larger-than-life story always begins with its larger-than-life hero, in this case Leonidas of Sparta. Displaying uncommon bravery and strength even as a child, Leonidas (Gerard Butler) goes on to become the greatest king Sparta has known, peerless in battle and benevolent in rule. When King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) demands Sparta submit to Persian rule, an outraged Leonidas throws the messengers to the pit, determined to fight the Persians. With the Spartan council against war, a lone King Leonidas leads a force of 300 against the million-strong Persian army.
