When Hollywood screenwriter Stevern Philips (Albert Brooks) is introduced by an eniably successful friend (Jeff Bridges) to his inspiration, Sarah (Sharon Stone), one of the nine daughters of the god Zeus (of Greek mytholoy fame), Steven is impatient to get inspired. Despite her misgivings, Steven's wife Laura (Andie MacDowell) accepts Sarah into Philip's household. As Steven's wife and Muse become fast friends, he realizes that their lives and work will never be the same.
