ChanTan(by Aaron Kwok), a private detective in Thailand, travelled to Malaysia following the clues in a photo. There he looked for a man called Chai(byChan Koon Tai), who might help reveal the truths behind the murder of his parents 30 years ago.
Chai?s adopted daughter Zi-wei(by Jiang Yi Yan) was an orphan of Chinese descent. Under Zi-wei?s guidance, Chanfinally found Chai. But Chai said the man in the photo, Pang, a drug dealer, died quite some time ago. Meanwhile, Chanwas informed that his home was broken into. Chanthen rushed back to Thailand.
Back home, Chanfound a secret compartment under his bed. But it was ransacked. He suspected what was once stashed there might have something to do with his parents?death. He could do nothing but seek help from a Malaysian private detective.
Chanfound ZhengFong-hei(by Nick Cheung), a Malaysian detective born in China. Together they decided to meet Chai again. But before they could find Chai, they had a fight and went separate ways.
Chanlooked for Chai by himself. Questioned repeatedly, Chai disclosed a guy called Uncle Bomight know something about his parents?death. Chanwent to visit Uncle Boaccording to the information, but was ambushed and almost got killed. Chanhad no choice but to seek Zheng?s help again. Together they arrived at Chai?s onlyto see a bunch of police officers conducting investigation there. Chai had gone missing.
Chanand Zheng believed Chai was dead. While they were analysing the case, Uncle Boshowed up at Zheng?s office and asked himto find Chan. The two detectives then tailed after Uncle Bo. But he was killed right in front of their eyes.
The two of them went to Zi-weiagain for more clues. Zi-weioverheard Chai talking to a man called Da-junon the phone. They mentioned having acquired an object and it was hidden in Guangzhou, China. Chanand Zi-weithen headed straight to Guangzhou.
In the former residence of Zi-wei?s born family, Chanmet Pang and Da-jun. Chansaid he wasn?t there for revenge, but to prove his parents?innocence. Pang was convinced somehow. He said Da-juntook a reel of Super 8mm film underhis bed. Chan?s parents captured the evidence of Qing?s crime on the film and Qingwas the mastermind behind this whole scheme. Chan?s mother owned a transportation company 30 years ago. Qing, Chai, Uncle Boand others used her company as a cover to smuggle drugs. Chan?s parents found out their crime, but refused to be accomplices. They claimed to have caught their action on film and threatened to disclose the evidence. That was how they ended up being murdered.
Right then, Changot a phone call from Qingwho said he had Zheng held for ransom. Qingasked for the film in exchenge of Zheng?s life. Chanand Zi-weithen rushed back to Malaysia. Chanwent to deal with Qingalone, but failed to get Zheng released. At the most critical moment, Hui showed up and saved him. Hui owed Chan?s parents a favour. He blamed himself for not being able to save their lives 30 years ago. Now Hui felt obliged to save their son to redeem himself. Qingfled the scene only to be run over by a dumper truck driven by Little Bo. As Qingexhaled his last breath, the Malaysian police had also gathered substantial evidence of Qing?s crime and raided his drug factory.
After things were settled, Changave his hotel room key to Zheng. Zheng went there to find Chai still alive. Chanhad held him in captivity just to induce conflicts and distrust within the drug cartel so that the police could wipe out the whole group all at once.
Back in Thailand, Chanprojected the reel of Super 8mm film on a screen. Surprisingly, there wasn?t anything related to Qing?s crime on it. It was actually footage of Chan?s birthday party when he was little. There was no such thing as an evidence right from the start. It was just a random lie Chan?s parents told in the pressing situation...
